NALANorthern Arizona Leadership Alliance
Areas of effort

Six committees. Every member on at least one.

Each standing committee is chaired by a member, plans and hosts members meetings on its issue area, and drives NALA's projects and positions within that lane. Jump straight to one below, or use the tabs above.

Government Affairs

Monitors city, county, state, and federal actions affecting the local business climate; gives elected officials and candidates a forum to present their priorities; and convenes both sides of contested issues, from utility rate cases to the Regional Plan, before members form positions.

Economic Development

Convenes quarterly to identify topics of economic significance to Northern Arizona and the local business environment, selects speakers, and hosts members meetings on the region's economic vitality: employers, workforce, capital, and municipal finance.

Education

Strengthens alignment across the full continuum of education, K-12 through higher education and workforce training, connecting FUSD, CCC, NAU, and the Arizona Board of Regents with employers and community partners on talent development and regional prosperity.

Arts and Science

Champions the institutions that make Flagstaff singular (Lowell Observatory, the Museum of Northern Arizona, the Flagstaff Symphony, Meteor Crater, and the Festival of Science), tracking major nonprofit initiatives and advocating for the economic impact of the arts in Arizona.

Environmental Stewardship

Guides responsible stewardship of Northern Arizona's natural resources (land, water, wildlife, air quality, and dark skies), reviewing programs and partnerships for environmental effect, from forest restoration to post-fire resilience.

Community Health & Civility

Connects the region's healthcare and public-health leadership (Northern Arizona Healthcare, TGen North, behavioral health, and community providers) on access, capacity, and health-sector economics.

Signature initiatives

Projects with our name on them.

Beyond convening, NALA commits to a small number of multi-year projects where member leadership can move the needle for the region.

Civic Finance

City Budget Transparency Project

A member-led effort to make Flagstaff's municipal budget legible to the public: multi-decade analysis of revenues, expenditures, and staffing, paired with a community townhall series on how the city's money actually works.

Nonprofit Sector

Arizona Daily Sun / NALA Nonprofit Project

A partnership with the Arizona Daily Sun to strengthen the visibility, capacity, and support of Northern Arizona's nonprofit organizations, connecting member resources to the sector that delivers so much of the region's quality of life.

Statewide

Arizona CEO Summit

The annual gathering of GPL, SALC, and NALA members, the state's three regional CEO councils in one room, comparing priorities on education, infrastructure, governance, and economic competitiveness.
